Welcome to a stay a little less ordinary…
Snugly tucked away in the beautiful village of Burton Joyce, this luxury retreat awaits your arrival. A beautiful blend of boutique style and real home-from-home comfort, its offbeat quirks are as charming and surprising as the picturesque countryside and historic city that surround it. If there’s one thing for certain – Purple Poppy isn’t your average chocolate-box cottage. It may be scrumptiously sweet in so many ways, but it’s the attention to detail and personal touches that make this property one-of-a-kind.
Just 5 miles from Nottingham, a stone’s throw from historic Southwell and Newark, and the world-famous Trent Bridge Cricket Ground (to name just a few), it provides the perfect base for anyone, from ramblers and writers to art lovers and sports enthusiasts.
200 years of history are packed into this small, but perfectly formed and beautifully renovated holiday cottage. A fusion of retro-contemporary and edgy styling, influenced by its Spanish owner’s roots, make this a self-catering stay you’ll remember.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
A striking feature stair rail (just one of Purple Poppy’s many quirks) winds up to three wonderfully light and beautifully furnished bedrooms – each continuing that continental charm and style. With a super-king fit for a queen, a super-snug double and single, as well as luxury robes and slippers for every guest, bedding down has never been so delightful. The cottage also features a large family bathroom and saloon-style washroom downstairs.
The quaint little courtyard is the perfect spot to rest and relax. Round off a long morning’s woodland walk with a late alfresco lunch, while listening to the clucking chickens in the adjoining cottage, who may just grace you with freshly-laid eggs for breakfast.
Days out and nights in…
Lazy Saturday mornings are made for sampling local delicacies at the nearby farmers’ markets in West Bridgford, Bingham and Southwell, with summer afternoons spent exploring the picturesque countryside and historic market towns or even, enjoying a cold beer watching the cricket at the world-famous Trent Bridge. But it’s back at the cottage where true relaxation resides.
With sofas made to share and luxury beds to sink into, the cottage is made all the more charming with its characterful sitting room and crackling wood burner. The perfect place to settle in for the night, foodies can feast on all that this continental-flavoured cottage has to offer.
Keen cooks will be in good company with its feature purple aga, impressively-equipped kitchen and funky styled 6-seater diner. And if you’re ever in need of a good recipe or two – don’t worry, this little cottage is packed full of them.
